Burghilicious is 100
This is it, my 100th post!
I started this blog 2.5 years ago. It took me longer to get to 100 posts than it has taken some other bloggers. Despite a few breaks here and there, however, this blog is one of my favorite things to do - other than the actual cooking, of course.
So to celebrate my 100th post, I'm taking a moment to look back on everything I've written so far, and share my top 10 posts. So here they are, in no particular order and with totally arbitrary categories. It's my blog, after all.
1. The most popular post, according to Google
The Best French Toast Sandwich
Perhaps I should kowtow to Cleveland more often, but this recreation of a French toast sandwich from Cleveland's Melt Bar and Grilled is handily the most viewed post ever on this site. If you don't have the sudden urge to visit the Land of Cleve, you can bring a little piece right to your own kitchen with bananas, peanut butter, cream cheese, challah and eggs.
2. The story I reference over and over
Oreo Cookies Killed My Mixer
I made a cookie dough so thick that it made my crappy mixer smoke and die. I probably wouldn't reference it so often if the incident hadn't prompted my dear, generous, amazing, I-don't-deserve-them friends to pitch in to get me a Kitchenaid for my birthday. But this one is also important to me because Deb from Smitten Kitchen left a comment, and I'm a total fangirl. I'm pretty sure I cried.
3. The first Scheidt appearance
Trout Taste Better When You Know Who Caught 'Em
This was one of the first meals that Scheidt ever cooked for me. It was certainly the first time I ever posted about him, even though I didn't mention him by name then. Suffice to say it's a big deal (to me) if I talk about you on Burghilicious. And I'm glad I still get to post about his food.
4. My (former) signature dish
Perfect Party Food: Sausage Yummies
Rather than teaching me some indigenous cultural food, my mom taught me how to follow recipes. This is one of the main family recipes I remember. For about 5 years, you could count on me bringing sausage yummies to your party, particularly if it was cold out. They still make an appearance every once in a while - but now someone else is usually carrying the dish!
5. The post that started a friendship
Breakfast with Elvis at Dozen
A Dozen cupcake has graced my masthead for the last 100 posts, and you know what? It's still adorable, and I still eat them. My interview with James was one of the first I ever did, and I'm pleased to say that we're still in regular contact - particularly now that Dozen's Cultural District location is next door to my office. It's been so great to see the success of this local business, and call James and Andrew friends.
6. The most complicated thing I've ever posted
Autumnal Lasagna
You know you aren't writing a recipe for everyday cooking when your lasagna has four separate fillings - three of which require cooking - and then on top of it, you make the pasta from scratch. I haven't attempted this one since, but it sure is pretty: lasagna will butternut squash, sausage and mushroom, chard and onion, and cheese filling, and a badge of honor.
7. The travel post that means the most
Eating Up Le Grand Traverse
I have relatives who live in Traverse City. They LIVE there, the lucky dogs! And I am so, so jealous. At least I still have four bottles of Mawby's bubbly to remind me of my favorite place in the States.
8. I have to include a soup
Soup: It's What's For Lunch
My love of velvety, pureed vegetable soup continues unabated. This one was the first, a roasted acorn squash, sweet potato and garlic soup. I stand by my assertion of two years ago: if you've got to eat lunch al desko, this kind of soup at least feels luxurious.
9. My favorite non-recipe recipe
Tomatoes Simply Satisfy
In which I claim that slicing a tomato is too much effort, and am promptly taught otherwise by Scheidt. It's embarrassingly typical - do not let the lasagna above fool you into thinking I'm not lazy - but it's also a great reminder that the simple things are plenty.
10. My grandparents
Always Eat Dessert
My grandparents proved that a mighty sweet tooth is a virtue. If I am strong enough to live by their example, I will most certainly deserve some cake. This post was one of the few times I've deviated far from food, but I'm so glad I did.
So before I move on to satisfy the Chunky Ragu cliffhanger later this week, I have to ask:
What's your favorite Burghilicious post? Leave it in the comments, and you'll definitely make me smile.

My favorite is the chocolate creme puffs!! Just because it was such a special recipe for a very special time, and you posted it, warts and all!! :D Of course sausage yummies will always be, well, yummy!
Congrats on reaching 100, cheers to you and 100 more!!! *MUAH*
January 6, 2010, at 11:18 PMCongrats on turning 100! Or, at least, turning *out* 100 posts! Here's to the next hundred!
It's hard to choose, but one of my favorite posts, for sure, is "5 Ways to Stop Being a Picky Eater". I've never been a picky eater, but I live with one, and used this post as part of my not-so-subtle campaign to get her to try, or re-try, new things. It worked...a little. And, a little is pretty good.
thanks :)
